This large wolf-like creature stalks towards you with red glowing eyes and a coat of coarse gray fur. It seems to look like a worg except for the unnatural silence that surrounds it as it approaches you.

Shrieking wolves, also called silence wolves, are unnatural creatures created from experiments many centuries ago. Combining the ruthlessness of a worg and the magical ability to suppress all sound, the Shrieking wolves are creatures not to be taken lightly.

Shrieking wolves can speak giant and common. Their voices often have sounds of growls in them.

Combat
Shrieking wolves like to use hunting methods when taking down prey, especially larger ones. They try to ambush enemies and then flank them, using the shrieking howls to the greatest effect on the most enemies. They are not too proud to flee a battle if it goes against them.

Silence Zone (Sp): A shrieking wolf is constantly surrounded with a zone of silence. Any creatures coming to within 20 feet of the creature are affected as if in the area of a silence spell. There is no save for this ability (however spell resistance applies, treat the caster level as 8th). The shrieking wolf can suppress this ability at will as a free action (and must do so to use some of its other abilities) any time it wants to. Activating the power again is a move equivalent action.

Spells-like Abilities (Sp): 3/day-sound burst. As an 8th level sorcerer. The shrieking wolf must suppress its zone of silence ability to use this.

Shrieking Howl (Su): Twice per day, after suppressing its zone of silence ability, a shrieking wolf can emit a high pitched howl from it centered into a cone 30 feet long. The howl does 4d6 sonic damage and deafens the victims for 4 rounds. A fortitude save (DC 20) halves the sonic damage and prevents becoming deaf. This save is Constitution based.

Society
Shrieking wolves prefer to live in dense forested areas as well as large, natural caverns. They usually hunt in packs and keep small hoards in their lairs from other victims.

Shrieking wolves are sometimes found in the company with hill giants and ogres, usually used as guards for important areas.
