A Fire Serpent is basically an enormous snake of living fire. They radiate heat, can breath fire, and their feathers are made of flame that will never go out. They are extremely smart and have accumulated vast knowledge which is passed down from serpent to serpent.

Fire Serpents have feathered wings and a sunburst-shaped crest just behind their black eyes- these are endlessly changing to all the colors of fire, like torches or flames. Their scales are coal-colored and their skin is red- there is no cure for their venom. They are very tolerant of other creatures, good and evil alike, and if something is not attacking it a Fire Serpent will usually attempt conversation. Often, Fire Serpents will swim, keeping their wings and head above water. Though water is harmless when it only covers their skin and scales, their feathers could be damaged by too much contact with the liquid, taking their powers of flight away. An interesting fact is that if a Fire Serpent ever loses a feather, it will change from being made of fire to a fire-colored feather resembling that of a bird. It will always be warm to the touch and can control fire, which is why they are so sought-after by humanoids and other intelligent creatures.

Combat
Fire Serpents usually enter a fight by flaring their wings, raising crests, puffing up and flattening their heads- meant to intimidate their opponents. If forced to fight, the serpent will usually lash out with its armored tail, try to singe its opponent with its firey feathers, or breathe out a long stream of fire similar to that of a dragon. They will also try to stare down an opponent or cause them to flee in terror because of the serpent's intimidating self. It finishes a combat by either letting the opponent walk away, or if it seems to be injured badly or trying to still kill the serpent, the Fire Serpent will strike the opponent and inject its lethal venom.

Fire Serpents have darkvision with a range of 60 feet and low-light vision. They can also smell a drop of blood a mile away, sense movement with an accuracy of 90 percent, and fly for up to a week without resting.

Society
Usually, Fire Serpents prefer to live alone. However, if another Fire Serpent (preferably of the opposite gender) happens to pass by, the resident serpent will welcome it most of the time. Occasionally, Fire Serpents will gather into a small group known as a Lair- so called because they are all housed together in one cave. Rarely, during a crisis or other important issue, all the Fire Serpents that can make it come together into a Conclave.
