Tamrackans lumber through dense forests and marshlands, uprooting trees and devouring the roots, burrowing animals, grubs and other tasties. They are a formidable and unflinching encounter for adventurers.

With it's dark, barklike skin, Tamrackans are well hidden hulks of deep forest. They stand near 16 feet tall. When standing still, they resemble massive dead trees. They don't move around things but rather through or over trees and heavy brush. As such, they are covered in a tough hide, flaked, green and brown, resembling leaves and bark, giving them their incredible camouflage. The skin is actually a collection of calluses, blisters, scabs and scratches from ploughing through brush.

90% of the Tamrackans time is spent eating. In a single day, it may consume as much as 300 pounds of tree roots. Druids find the Tamrackan disturbingly destructive, though they have encouraged them to move in to areas needing thinning...either thinning trees or loggers.

Combat
When provoked, or (rarely) desiring fresh meat, the Tamrackan enters combat like it moves through the forest...straight ahead. It deals with closest foes first, regardless of threat. While using it's arms not so much claws as clubs, the Tamrackan simply begins swinging it's log-like limbs. Successful hits result in a grapple check (Improved Grab). Upon grabbing an opponent, the Tamrackan treats it like a tree and begins to stretch and pull it apart, inflicting severe damage. Should the victim be killed, the Tamarackan will eat it only if no other threats remain. Otherwise, it is cast aside and the next threat is attacked.

Beats have low-light vision and darkvision with a range of 60 feet.

Society
Totally solitary. No one knows how the Tamrackan reproduce. Often, Tamrackans will have a favorite cache where they store dried roots or other foodstuffs. This is a spot where some adventurers have found their final resting place.
