Contrary to popular belief, fairies are actually devious little creatures. Sometimes, a fairy will switch a mortal baby for one of its own. These babies are raised in the fairy relm and become quazi-magical beings.

Physical description varies slightly depending on what race the baby was taken from, but there are a few common things you can recognize. Their skin adopts a light-blue to pale-green color and swirling paterns of silver or gold appear on their faces, arms and upper torsos. In general, the magical affects of living in the fairy relms causes the changeling to grow to be about 4 feet tall, regardless of their original race. Changelings have the same tastes for food as their fairy parents, usually having a diet that completely lacks meat. They are fond of good food, good music, poetry and a good practical joke.

Combat
Changelings do not like direct combat and prefer subtleties to shows of force. If possible, they will use their magical abilities to trap their opponents while hiding. If this can't be done, they try to retreat, but will attack with surprising ferrocity if cornered.

Changelings absorb the magical powers of the fairy relms and gain limited magical powers. They may cast Fairy Fire, Detect Magic and Read Magic as free round actions once per day. They can also cast 0-3rd level illusion and enchantment spells as a fifth level sorcerer. If the changeling is a magic using class, these spells do not consume spell slots. Changelings get a +2 bonus on heal checks. This comes from their study of plants and herbs in the fairy relm. Changelings get a +2 bonus on move silently checks.

Society
When the changeling reaches maturity, fairy law requires that they be told the truth about where they came from. Often, changelings leave their homes to learn more about the world they came from. They generally get along well with the outside world, but can drive off some of the less tolerant races with their jokes and games.
