Formidable in battle and a faithful companion, this powerful creature is distantly related to the peregrine falcon. The pyrofalcon has all the skills of a normal falcon, yet can burst into flame in a stoop, and its steely gaze cand send organic matter (and creatures) up in flames.

The pyrofalcon is similar in size and appearance to the peregrine falcon, yet its underbody is flecked with russet and orange, and its eyes, beak and claws are bronze or gold. Its hunts smaller birds on the wing, catching them in a stoop that can be more than 150mph, and has a penchant for fire salamanders. When not fighting the pyrofalcon is most often preening or surveying the surrounding lands with its sharp eyes. They can be tamed, becoming fierceley loyal and very trustworthy; any party with a pyrofalcon is a force to be reakoned with. It is not known where they originally came from, but colonies are often found near volcanoes.,The pyrofalcon is similar in size and appearance to the peregrine falcon, yet its underbody is flecked with russet and orange, and its eyes, beak and claws are bronze or gold. Combat
The favourite tactic of the pyrofalcon is the stoop - a fast dive from hundreds of feet up in the air, striking the target with a punishing blow. Added to this the pyrofalcon can burst into flame at will, turning itself into a fireball hurlting towards an enemy at speeds of over 150mph. Terrifying. If impact does not kill the enemy, the pyrofalcon has a sharp beak and deadly claws, usually used for grabbing prey in mid-air. Its feiry gaze can also send enemies up in flame. When not a fireball, the bird can camouflage itself in a heat-haze. This leaves the enemy or prey blissfully unaware about the inferno about to strike.

Magical beasts have darkvision with a range of 60 feet and low-light vision. Fireball (Su); Firegaze (Sp); Haste (Su); Improved Grab (Ex) Camoflage (Ex); Find Target (Sp); Fast Healing (Ex); Regeneration (Ex)

Society
Loyal to the last, pyrofalcons mate for life. Tamed pyrofalons are usually those who have lost their mate and direct their loyalty elsewhere. They are long-lived birds, the oldest tamed one was reputed to be 45 years old. They are very intelligent, and can learn to understand human speech. Somehow they have evolved a strong sense of morality, and are unlikely to be found in the company of evildoers. They are found in more than pairs, yet they have been occasionally known to form armies against great threats. The bird's feiry-red eggs are laid in a nest which the parents set on fire and leave till hatching. This led to the bird's nickname, the phoenix falcon. Both parents share the role of feeding and bringing up the chicks, which leave the nest as soon as they start bursting into flames.
