The Greater Vargouille is a demonic outsider, called a grandmother gouille by many demonologists. This creature is drawn to areas where there is an intense aura of death or suffering (graveyards or cities suffering plagues). Once it settles an area it begins to spawn Vargouille minions by accosting and infecting human or demihuman prey. It uses it's wiles and it's ability to take on the form of a maiden to lure its prey.

The greater vargouille bears some similarities to it's lesser kind. It's emaciated head has a rigor like grin upon it's slightly female face, and it's eyes shine with a hellish green light. Unlike the vargouille, the greater vargouille's head has no wings. Instead of wings or hair it has several slick tentacle like appendages that writhe and sway on their own. These appendages seep a thick purple milk that it feeds to it's vargouille spawn.

It's body is that of a haggardly old woman, with withered slack skin hanging loosely off of an emaciated frame. The creatures limp and withered dugs also produce the same milky substance that seeps from the tentacles on its head. The skin of the greater vargouille is often black or purple, with flecks of glowing green covering it like freckles.

While it may appear to be wearing a cloak at some times, it isn't. This cloak is in fact a pair of leathery wings it has in lieu of arms. These batlike wings are tipped with fierce ragged red nailed claws. It uses these claws to slash it's prey as it flies past them.

Combat
The greater Vargouille uses it's vargouille minions as it's first stage of attack. Commanding them with it's presence it uses them to paralyze or position prey into a vulnerable area. Once it feels that the victim is sufficiently impeded, it will attack. It often strafes past victims with it's fly-by attack to shriek at or savage them with its claws.


Kiss (Su) A greater vargouille can kiss a paralyzed target with a successful melee touch attack, beginning a terrible transformation. The affected opponent must succeed at a Fortitude save (DC 19) or begin to transform, losing all his or her hair 1d6 hours later. After another 1d6 hours, the ears grow into leathery wings, tentacles sprout on the chin and scalp, and the teeth become long, pointed fangs. During the next 1d6 hours, the victim suffers 1d6 points of permanent Intelligence and Charisma drain. The transformation is complete 1d6 hours later, when the head breaks free of the body (which promptly dies) and becomes a vargouille. This transformation is interrupted by sunlight, and even a daylight spell can delay death, but to reverse the transformation requires remove disease.


Shriek (Su) Instead of biting, a greater vargouille can open its distended mouth and let out a terrible shriek. Those within 60 feet (except other vargouilles) who both hear the shriek and can clearly see the creature must succeed at a Fortitude save (DC 15) or be paralyzed with fear until the monster attacks them, goes out of range, or leaves their sight. A paralyzed creature is susceptible to the vargouille’s kiss. If the save is successful, that opponent cannot be affected again by that greater vargouille’s shriek for one day.


Command Spawn (Su) A greater vargouille can command it's spawn with great effect. It may issue orders to any vargouille spawn within 60 feet with a free action. These orders will be followed no matter how suicidal. The Vargouille must be able to utter short shrieks to it's spawn in order for the commands to be heard, if it cannot be heard by its minions then this ability is disrupted.


Alternate Form(Su) Once per day the Greater Vargouille may appear as an attractive female of demi-human or human lineage for 1d4+1 hours.

Society

Greater Vargouilles are territorial to the extreme. These creatures do not tolerate the presence of any others of their kind (with the exception of their own twsited progeny). Even rival greater vargouille spawn are sport for them to kill, and they will torture and torment other vargouilles just for fun.


Greater vargouille's speak common and abyssal.


Special Greater Vargouille milk is addictive to demi-humans and humans. Those that drink the concoction gain a +2 confidence bonus to charisma and dexterity checks. However each time a character imbibes a cup of this purple milk they must make a Fortitude save (DC 20) or they in turn may be affected by the greater vargouille's command spawn ability as if they were one of the vargouille's own creations.
