Nuuwa, the mindless, lumbering victims of the Gaums of Barbara Hambly's the "Unschooled Wizard" series.

The Nuuwa are large, hairy creatures composed of the barely living bodies of intelligent humanoids. Because of the decomposing state of the bodies, Nuuwa are generally unrecognizable as having been intelligent and are covered in a thick mat of hair, mold, and filth. The Nuuwa have no discernable eyes and sense life through a sense of smell and a limited empathic abilities within 50 feet. Without the ability to reason or give compassion, the Nuuwa devour every moving thing in their path, eventually walking into bogs or off cliffs and dying. The Nuuwa can be found, if at all, in random wilderness lands, sometimes stumbling through small settlements and clearing them of inhabitants and livestock if not killed.

Combat
Once life, excepting other Nuuwa, is detected by a Nuuwa, it will enter into a battle rage and charge. It will first attempt to grasp its intended prey, holding it still for a bite. Its mouth, decomposing and distorting with the rest of its body, is filled with bacterial infections and diseases which deal damage as poison 3d4 days after infection (negated by heal check or Fortitude save DC 15) for 1d3 points of Strength and Constitution damage a day until healed or death. The Nuuwa are too stupid to engage in effective battle tactics and will swarm, retreating only if set ablaze.

Society
The Nuuwa are the joining point of two completely alien societies. When a Gaum takes control of a humanoid, it instills it with a tiny flake of will of a dark extraplanar consciousness. Since this entity desires discord and destruction above all else, the Nuuwa are only capable of visciousness against surrounding life, and, if no victims are available, against each other. Nuuwa, usually, will only be found in solitary or pair groups; however, larger groups can be organized by powers in touch with the extraplanar being. Because the will of a Nuuwa is incompatible with that of most living beings of this plane, it will not act to protect itself against anything except fire, a throwback to the trauma of having a fiery Gaum burn through its living eye and burn away its mind. Most Nuuwa die tragic, yet avoidable deaths due the creature's lack of concern for its own limitations.

This creature has not yet been play tested.
This is not a kender type creature.
