An ancient demon of the outerworlds that has just recently been released from his prison.

3.5 ready!

This creature, obviously some type of demon, has red, scaly skin and two rams horns coming from his large skull. He has bat-like wings coming from the back of his torso that look strong enough to allow him to fly. The most identifying feature of this demon is the huge long spear it carries with him, pulsating with obvious magic power.

Xak T'Saroth is an ancient demon from the Nine Hells that was trapped in a magical statue for over 2,000 years. He was recently released from his prison by some unwary adventurers.

Xak T'Saroth looks like a normal demon, with red scaly skin, two horns jutting from his large skull and two huge bat like wings. He is constantly enveloped in orange/red flames that are not harmful to the touch, but add to his intimidating presence. Xak T'Saroth also carries with him a huge long spear called the Spear of T'Saroth. This spear is what is responsible for allowing him to escape into the material plane. He keeps the spear with him at all times, and if he were to ever lose it or it were to be destroyed, he would fade from existence.

Xak T'Saroth stays away from most civilized lands because he knows that his presence would cause an uproar from the townsfolk. He can be mostly found in underground caves or hiding in abandoned ruins.

Combat
Xak T'Saroth loves to fight up close, and he wastes no time in charging into melee. He fights viciously, and if he finds that his adversary is not up to par with him, he switches to his hands to fight. Xak T'Saroth is very uptight with his spear. Since it is the key to his existence, he will never part with it willingly (see below for stats on the spear).

Frightful presence (Sp): Anyone that is not from the Nine hells that comes with in 20 feet of Xak T'Saroth must make a will save (DC 16) or flee anywhere that is away from the demon for 1d8 rounds. This save is Charisma based.

Poison (Ex): Anyone that is hit with Xak T'Saroth's slam attacks must succeed a Fortitude save (DC 20) or suffer primary and secondary damage of 1d4 Str. This save is Constitution based.

Xak T'Saroth is no ordinary demon, therefore he does not benefit/suffer from the ordinary powers of demons.

Society
Xak T'Saroth only exists to cause chaos and harm. He was originally captured by a dwarven miner of a good heart. The dwarf, whose name has been lost for centuries, knew that he couldn't destroy the demon that plagued his mines, so he instead called upon the power of his god. The god then turned the demon Xak T'Saroth to stone to trap him forever. However, the god warned the dwarven miner that the only way to release Xak T'Saroth was to give him back his spear. So, the dwarf had the spear safely put away, until some hapless adventurers found it and released the demon again.

Xak T'Saroth hates dwarves above all else, and he attacks them without warning.

The Spear of T’Saroth This spear first came into existence as a weapon of a powerful demon-lord, who’s name has been lost for eons. The demon-lord was slain by an intelligent, power-hungry demon of the Nine Hells, named Xak T’Saroth. The demon stole the artifact from the demon lord and used to his own purposes. Xak T'Saroth roamed the material plane an attacked anyone he could find. He was set loose for over four millennia until he was finally captured and imprisoned by a dwarven miner. He was imprisoned for nearly 2,000 years until some hapless adventurers released him from his stone coffin by placing the spear into his hand. He was then set loose again on the world to wreck havoc.

The spear acts as a +2 large long spear. It also has several powers that are usable a certain amount of times per day. The spear is the key to keep Xak T'Saroth in this world. If the spear is destroyed, the demon will be forever destroyed. However, if the demon is slain in the material plane and the spear is not, the demon’s presence is placed into the spear. When someone new tries to wield the spear, he must make a Will save (DC18) or have the demon take control of him. After that, the wielder of the weapon must succeed a fortitude save (DC 16) every day while the demon drains his life force. If he fails, he loses 1 Con point every time he fails. The only way to bring back the lost Constitution is with a Wish or Miracle spell. When the wielder is drained to 0 Constitution, the demon is released to the material plane and the wielder is destroyed and used to power the artifact. If the initial Will save succeeds, the demon has now power over the wielder and the person may use the powers of the spear with no cost to him. The powers are revealed to the person as soon as they touch it. Every time the wielder uses one of the powers, they must make a Fortitude save (DC 16) or take 1 point of temporary Constitution damage to power the desired effect.

3/day: Darkness (20 ft. radius), poison (as the spell cast by a 15th level sorcerer), dark vision, Fireball (as a 15th level sorcerer), lightning bolt (as a 15th level sorcerer), flame strike (as a 15th level sorcerer).

1/day: Harm (as a touch spell with the spear), Heal (on wielder only).

Makes all spells cast by a divine or arcane spell caster empowered.

The spear can also speak with the wielder and anyone with in 50 feet with telepathy. The demon in the sword may make suggestions to anyone if he does not like the wielder. The demon also tries to change the alignment of the wielder to Chaotic Evil.

Caster Level: 15th; Darkness, poison, dark vision, fireball, lightning bolt, flame strike, harm, heal. Weight: 15 lb.
