+2 Hoopak of Wandering
donated by Corynna Skylark

Description:
The hoopak of wandering looks like any other hoopak except that its spearpoint is coated in mercury. The mercury, however, will not poison the wielder. In fact, the hoopak gives the wielder immunity to mercury poisoning. Otherwise, it has the usual trinkets and feathers cascading down the side of it.

History: Well, you'll never believe it...My friends and I had just come across a young adult dragon's lair. Naturally, I wanted to go inside, right? Well, my friends tried to stop me, but they aren't very good at paying attention to me, so when they were distracted (it's amazing what a forest fire will do to distract people!), I sneaked back to the cave. I went inside, and there was this HUGE pile of jewels and gold and weapons and armor and gems and...where was I? Oh yes. So I went inside, and there it was. The dragon was in the lair, of course, but he turned out to be quite a nice fellow, if a bit nervous that I wanted his treasure. I told him, oh no! I just came exploring to see what kind of dragon lived here. He told me he was a mercury dragon and not to touch him or I'd end up really sick. Of course, I couldn't resist the urge to come up to him, though he kept sidling away, but finally, I touched his claw and giggled. Fortunately, 'cause I was starting to feel kinda woozy and all, he gave me this hoopak as a parting gift (which was somewhat hastily given), and the wooziness went away. Then he, almost rudely, I might add, pushed me out of the cave.

How it Works: It gives the person wielding it a plus two to attack and damage. May only be used by someone proficient in the hoopak or any kender (even if their proficiency is in the whippik or some other weapon). The mercury on the spearpoint will not poison the wielder. In fact, the hoopak gives the wielder immunity to mercury poisoning. Lastly, the Hoopak of Wandering causes the person holding it to go on wanderlust when they reach the traditional coming-of-age-for-wanderlust (adjusts to fit the race's age equivalent of a kender if the person is not a kender). They continue on wanderlust until the traditional kender-age for stopping and then settle down. Most non-kender consider this item cursed, but simply giving up possession of the item rids a non-kender of wanderlust. Of course, it has no effect whatever on a kender.
