The Ring of "Forget-me-own-name-next"
donated by Corynna Skylark

Description:
It is a somewhat nondescript ring. There's something interesting about its appearance...but...you just can't remember what it is...

History: This ring was designed by the white mage Alacar in an attempt to lose his acquaintance with his group's resident kender. He had the ring crafted by an elven silversmith. At the moment of completion, Alacar cast a permanent variation of the "Forget" spell into it and left it lying conspicuously in his bright pink pouch.

How it Works: When placed on a finger, this ring renders a kender's memory of people completely blank. He can only remember the names of other kender. At some point in trying to remember a name, the kender will say "Forget me own name next". He does NOT forget stories about people, but he has to make up the names or the story goes something like: So, I was with this big barbarian-guy. His name was...uh...wow. I am so embarrassed! I'm usually so good with names! Forget me own name next! He's a good friend of mine...long hair? Kinda mean-looking? You know...he's a barbarian...Tall? He carries a giant club? You know! That guy...etc. If worn by someone other than a kender, his or her mind is filled with the names of kender. Usually, this causes the person to scream in terror and pull the ring off, flinging it as far from his person as possible. As a footnote: the attempt by Alacar to rid himself, however gently, of his resident kender was unsuccessful as the kender re-introduced himself to their group later that day when he met them running as quickly as they could from the elven village where Alacar made sure the kender would "find" the ring.
