The Chapak of Spirit Searching
donated by Kiven Thornfinder
Description: The Chapak of Spirit Searching is a chapak with a pure white
axe blade that twinkles when put near light. The handle is made
of ironwood, with pictures of twirling leaves and branches carved
into it. The sling appears normal but in fact can be drawn back
twice as far as a normal chapak.
History: The Chapak of Spirit Searching was created by a joint effort
between a Silvanesti member of the White Robes named
Alothorianas and a half-elf cleric of Paladine named Walorin for
a kender warrior named Palias Thistleknot (who just so
happened to be the ancestor of Kronin Thistleknot). Walorin
and Alothorianas (called Alan by humans) made the weapon to
give to the kender who saved their life from human bounty
hunters.
The chapak was crafted for the intent to protect the young
kender from the horrible undead of the realms, which he
reported having problems with on his many journeys. The
chapak was blessed by Paladine and Solinari both, to guard the
noble-spirited kender in the days to come. Exactly one year
later the Cataclysm struck, and the chapak and its owner
wandered to Kenderhome. Palias spent his last days there, but
the chapak was long gone (in the pouches of another kender, to
be sure!). It was one of the last weapons to be blessed by the
gods before the Cataclysm.
How it Works: AD&D: The Chapak of Spirit Searching can only be held by
good-aligned characters. When touched by neutral characters, it
gives a slight shock (1d4 points of damage) but cannot kill the
handler. When touched by an evil character, it sends a
channeling of holy power into the person's body. This causes
2d8 points of damage. The Chapak is a +2 weapon in axe
form. When used against undead, it can act as a silver
weapon/blessed weapon and it can twinkle brightly on
command, causing the opponent(s) of the wielder to save
against spell or be disoriented and unable to do anything but
wander around for 1d6 rounds. The chapak acts as a
permanently active staff of detect undead. It buzzes loudly
when undead are present within 30 feet of the user, no matter
what. This cannot be dispelled. The Chapak's greatest power,
however, is its turning undead power. It lets the user who can't
turn undead turn as if 2 levels lower. If the user can turn
undead, they turn as a cleric of 2 more levels. Against evil
opponents, the axe retains all benefits but the turn undead
power. Against neutral opponents, the axe retains only its
enchantment. Against good opponents, the axe does no
damage (except nonlethal damage, and even then, the person
can never be killed or knocked out).
SAGA: The Chapak of Spirit Searching is currently a chapak of
fame, due to its blessing by the departed gods. It acts as a +9
weapon (3 for the chapak, 6 for the enchant). It can also harm
undead and Chaos's minions much more easily, doing twice as
much damage as normal. The chapak also gives a loud
strumming noise when within 30 feet of undead. This will
increase in power when the undead are more powerful, and in
the presence of Chaos's minions, it will make an extrememly
loud buzzing noise that can distract undead from their tasks or
combat-apply a -1 modifier to all tests. It is truly the undead
slayer's weapon, which has caused many a powerful dracolich or
other intelligent undead master to want to destroy it. It is
legendary among kender lore (most of which comprises of
undead beasties who are repulsed by kender warriors which then
throw huge parties) |
